Top Rookies to watch out for in the 22/23 season
As part of our work experience project, me ( Arjun ) and Ashvin have been working hard, compiling lots of data and statistics about some of the top rookies to look out for in the upcoming season, potentinally helping the beginners in the hobby who need a starting point of who are some of the talents should be on their radar. From gathering all the information, to editing all the pictures which have been uploaded on the MGC Instagram page, we've put a lot of effort in to produce the best research task possible, and we hope you guys enjoy it as much as we did creating it.
Here's our top 10 rookies to watch out for next season:
10) Naci Unuvar - A name to remember for sure. This prodigy has been destined to reach the top ever since he fired Ajax's U19s to the national title at the age of only 15, and the Dutch winger is only going to improve. At the age of 18, he became the youngest ever player to score a goal on their Ajax debut in January 2020, however he hasn't managed to break into the first team just yet, he stills remains and is recognised as a top talent in Amsterdam. He has an impressive 29 G/A tally in 35 games for Ajax's second team in the Keuken Kampioen Divise, with 2587 minutes of game time.
9) Calvin Ramsay - Liverpool have recently secured the signing of the young superstar Calvin Ramsay, a right back from Aberdeen, totalling a transfer fee of around €6.5 million. The 18-year-old fullback has had his breakthrough season this season with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, attracting attention from numerous clubs around the world. He clocked an impressive 1480 minutes in the Scottish Premiership, ending the campaign with 1 goal and 5 assists. . To add to this, in the UECL Qualifies, in the 6 games he was involved in, he managed to grab himself 4 assists, which for a young right back heading to a team like Liverpool, something Jurgen Klopp will be very pleased about.
8) Junior Adamu - Following the departure of Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of £32.7 million, RB Salzburg are in need of a new target man, Junior Adamu might be the man they need. Averaging a goal contribution every 148 minutes, he fits the criteria of a target man role, strong in the air and versatile. He has also proven this evident when he scored his first UCL goal and in the process creating history for RB Salzburg, scoring their first ever goal in the Round of 16. With there not being many cards in circulation for Adamu, his most notable one would be his first ToppsNow card and it’s a matter of time before he becomes a regular for Salzburg.
7) Brian Brobbey - Next player on the list is someone that rose from the ranks of Ajax to move to his current club RB Leipzig. His move to Leipzig could be considered lacklustre with a lack of minutes at the German club evident from the 124 minutes that he got to play, providing 2 assists in the short space of time, in the first half of the 2021/22 season. As a result, it was clear that Brobbey wanted a move elsewhere and who else was it to be but his former club Ajax. Signing a loan deal for the latter part of the season, he had a point to prove.Scoring 7 and assisting a goal in the Eredivise was a certain confidence boost for the young striker who has gone back to his parent club, RB Leipzig. Will he get the minutes or will he be behind in the pecking order?
6) Adil Aouchiche - With breaking out into the first team being limited in an already world class PSG squad, Aouchiche took the risk to move to St Etienne during the summer of 2020. At the beginning, the risk seemed to have paid off for the midfielder possessing plenty of creativity and able to dribble past his opponents with ease. Following the relegation of St Etienne, is it time to move for Aouchiche? With there being tons of his rookie stickers up for sale on eBay, is it the right time to buy or is he a part of the ‘what could’ve been?’.
5) Noni Madueke - When Madueke rejected an offer from Man Utd and decided to leave Tottenham, it was considered to be a huge risk when he joined the Dutch outfit PSV in 2018. Fast forward a few years and it seems to have paid off. Since working his way up to the first team, he has been in superb form with the key aspects of his performance involving dribbling through the opposition first team with his electrifying pace and ability on the ball. Signing a 4 year contract for PSV in 2020, he won’t be going anywhere and it seems that he has what it takes to be one of the best wingers in the future. With his only cards being the Panini Fifa score and his Topps Living set, is it the best time to invest in him or is it too early to invest in him?
